When Does The New GMC Terrain 2024 Come Out – With the aptly titled Terrain, GMC is preparing to make a splash in the booming soft-roader industry. The compact crossover now has an All-Terrain all-wheel drive AT4 variant as part of its 2024 redesign. Our main complaint about the Terrain is that it is otherwise a competent crossover but is overpriced. Our impression hasn’t changed, and we think the 170 HP engine and the interior’s vintage style don’t help much.
Does the AT4 alter this, and can the GMC Terrain AT4 be considered the gold standard among tiny adventure-ready premium compact crossovers? Such a lengthy description suggests a limited market. Indeed, the Terrain AT4, with its base price of $34,000, enjoys the luxury of being the only competitor in this segment. For the GMC Terrain to succeed, it must compete with cheaper class leaders like the Ford Bronco Sport, which has all-wheel drive and terrain modes as standard equipment. Even though Ford’s starting price is only $28,265.
2024 GMC Terrain Redesign
Despite having a 1.5-liter engine, the GMC Terrain‘s front end is hefty and truck-like, and its overhang is relatively large. However, off-road, approach and departure angles aren’t helped by a lengthy overhang. The AT4 boasts a front skid plate, all-new 17-inch wheels, and distinctive trim details. Two thousand twenty-four models have updated front and rear fascias, LED headlights, and taillights. The famous Desert Sand Metallic, previously exclusively available on the AT4, is now one of the range’s new metallic colors, along with Marine Metallic and Cayenne Red Metallic.
Black lower body trim, deep-tinted rear glass, heated power-adjustable mirrors, roof rails, and fog lamps are the only exterior changes to the GMC Terrain (halogen). Exterior extras can be added to your vehicle, including roof racks, a SkyScape power sunroof, side steps, and more. Outwardly, the GMC Terrain is the longest at 182.3 inches and has the most extended wheelbase at 107.3 inches. The Toyota RAV4 towers above the competition, with a height of 67 and 8.4 inches of ground clearance.
Interior
The infotainment system is the only part of the 2024 GMC Terrain that has been updated, although there are new upholstery colors and trims throughout the cabin. There are five available seats inside. The driver and front passenger seats in the first row are manually adjustable in six ways. At the same time, the remainder of the interior is outfitted with cloth upholstery and a single-zone automatic temperature control system. Perforated leather seating surfaces, heated 8-way power-adjustable driver and 6-way power-adjustable front passenger seats, and dual-zone climate control with rear vents are standard on the SLT. A heated steering wheel is included in the SLT package. Cargo space in the 2024 GMC Terrain is 29.6 cubic feet.
The inside of the 2024 GMC Terrain is roomy and comparable to that of rival vehicles. Cargo room, however, is an important consideration, and the 2024 Terrain delivers less than the finest in the class (the Honda CR-V, with 39.2 cu. ft.). Even though there are revisions to the infotainment system, the SLE and SLT only provide 7.0 and 8.0 inches screens, respectively. Several new additions to the infotainment system include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard, a built-in Amazon Alexa voice assistant, and a new heads-up display available on the SLT with the optional Tech Package. The more extensive 8.0-inch system is known as an option on the SLE model and will come standard with navigation.
Engine
One and only one engine choice is available for the 2024 GMC Terrain, and that is a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 that generates 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. For the 2024 model year, the 2.0L turbocharged inline-four engine will no longer be available. The front wheels receive 100% of the power from the 1.5L turbocharged engine through a 9-speed automated transmission. An all-wheel drive is even an option for this car. All-wheel drive is an excellent feature for the few rough roads you’re likely to encounter and to keep a relaxed driving style. Regarding driving and handling, the 1.5L holds its own, thanks to its quiet highway cruising and strong acceleration. Drivers on the road daily will also praise the 9.3-second sprint to 60 miles per hour.
The Toyota RAV4 has 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, which is 33 more than the GMC Terrain. The Mazda CX-5, which comes in second to the RAV4, is the fastest of the bunch due to its 187 horsepower and 8.1-second 0-60 mph pace. The next is the Honda CR-V, which has 190 hp but the slowest acceleration time at 7.7 seconds. The GMC Terrain is the worst of the three vehicles in raw power and acceleration from rest to 60 miles per hour.
2024 GMC Terrain Release Date and Price
The starting price of a base 2024 GMC Terrain SLE is $27,900, which is higher than usual for the segment. The next trim up, the SLT, will set you back $31,900, and the all-new AT4 edge for 2024 will begin at $34,000. The base price of the top-of-the-line Denali model is $36,600. The 2024 GMC Terrain is scheduled to debut in the summer of that year in the United States.
