When Will The 2024 GMC Canyon Be AvailableThe Sierra’s little brother, the 2024 GMC Canyon Crew Cab, is a midsize pickup truck. If you’re in the market for a little pickup truck, you can’t go wrong with this pickup. The Canyon is Chevy’s upscale brother to Colorado, sharing Colorado’s platform. GMC has two different Canyon Crew Cab trims, the base Elevation, and the higher-end Elevation. Starting at $28,700, the highest-end Elevation model can cost as much as $37,300.

The Canyon is a reasonably priced midsize pickup that has been steadily rising in popularity because of the value and possibilities it offers. Among the many notable characteristics are a 3.6L V6 engine, 18″ black-painted aluminum wheels, a mighty towing capacity, and a well-built interior. GMC provides various add-ons and bundles that may be utilized to personalize and improve the Canyon. The Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab, Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, and Ford Ranger SuperCrew are just a few competitors for the 2024 GMC Canyon Crew Cab.

Last year, GMC discreetly updated the Canyon’s appearance with a new grille design that gave it a little more presence than before. You can choose between a more rough (AT4) or flashier (AT5) appearance (Denali). The wheels on the base model are 18 inches, and the wheels on the Denali are 20 inches. The wheels on the AT4 are 17 inches and have 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires. Daytime running lights, halogen projector-beam headlamps, and trademark LED lighting are standard on all models. The manual mirror adjustments and black door handles are standard equipment on the base trim. The AT4’s Premium trim level features LED cargo box illumination, dark chrome exterior trim, and red recovery hooks. The tailgate on all but the base trim is designed with an EZ-Lift mechanism, making it easier to open and close. New for 2018, the Denali can be outfitted with the Denali Black Edition Kit, which replaces the standard chrome and blacks out the wheels and external trim for a more sinister, stealthy look.

Summit White is the only standard color on any of the trim levels. For an extra $495, the base Elevation Standard trim can be had in Onyx Black and the metallic colors Satin Steel and Dynamic Blue. You can get Desert Sand Metallic for $495 and Cayenne Red Tintcoat for $645 if you upgrade to the Elevation. The AT4 eliminates Dynamic Blue above this level. Last but not least, the Denali now comes in Hunter Metallic for an extra $495. This dark blueish-gray color provides a nice contrast to Denali’s excellent chrome. The Cayenne Red Tintcoat, an eye-catching color, was standard on our Canyon AT4. Do you think it’s fair to pay an additional $645 for it? Budge and individual taste are the only factors.

LED cargo box lighting is traditional on the top-of-the-line AT4, which also features dark chrome exterior finishes and bright red recovery hooks. The EZ-Lift tailgate design is standard on everything save the lowest trim, making it easier to open and close the trunk. New for 2018, the Denali can be outfitted with the Denali Black Edition Kit, which replaces the standard chrome and blacks out the wheels and external trim for a more sinister, stealthy look.

The dealer fitted AT4 insignia, off-road rocker protection, and black performance exhaust on our Crew Cab, along with 17-inch gloss black aluminum wheels, red tow hooks, a mid skid plate, and a spray-on bed liner. We think it’s more handsome than the corporate Chevy Colorado, and we appreciate the design. The bed length shown here is 61.7 inches (the conventional length), compared to 74 inches (the length of an extended bed). We found that the average bed size was sufficient for sleeping and other purposes.

Engine

The base 2024 Canyon is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automated gearbox. That motor produces 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque. It’s not exactly a rocket ship, and its acceleration is quite sluggish, but it does have a place in the lineup as a more economical option. Compared to the original six-speeder, the Canyon’s 3.6-liter V6 with 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft is a far more capable performer, and its eight-speed automatic gearbox is a welcome upgrade. This is the best powertrain in the lineup since it quickly accelerates the Canyon to highway speeds and has sufficient passing power. The 2.8-liter turbodiesel with 182 horsepower and 369 lb-ft is the best option if you need maximum towing capabilities. Unfortunately, daily driving pleasure isn’t entirely on par with the V6. The AT4’s V6 is serviceable, but we’d opt for the diesel due to its superior fuel economy and towing capacity. Is there a downside? The cost of diesel is substantial, typically increasing the total by several thousand dollars.

The Canyon’s GDP numbers are comparable to those of its rivals. The EPA estimates that the 2WD turbodiesel achieves 20/30/23 mpg in city/highway/combined cycles, making it the most fuel-efficient option. That’s great, but it’s not as high as the 22/28/24 mpg offered by the Jeep Gladiator diesel, which only comes with a heavier 4×4 drivetrain. The Canyon’s standard 2.5-liter engine achieves a best of 19/25/22 mpg, and while the V6 is the least fuel-efficient of the three, its 18/25/21 mpg in the 2WD version is only a slight drop in efficiency compared to the 2.5L. All models feature a 21-gallon fuel tank, allowing a maximum range of 483 miles (when using the diesel engine).

2024 GMC Canyon Release Date and Price

The base price of a 2024 GMC Canyon is about $26,800, which is somewhat higher than usual for a compact pickup truck. The base price for the Elevation trim is $30,300, while the base price for the AT4 edge is $38,400. The price for the top-of-the-line Denali model begins at $41,200. The GMC Canyon is set to debut in the United States in the summer of 2024.
